I think some of them were on the air before I was born.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s written and co-written over thirty-five plays, many of them performed throughout the world, including:\u00a0<i>Murder At The Howard Johnson&#8217;s<\/i>,\u00a0<i>Weekend Comedy<\/i>,\u00a0Getting Sara Married, and\u00a0<i>Hamlet II (Better Than The Original)<\/i>. Twenty four of them have been published by Samuel French.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Chicago in 1932 he joined the Air Force after his first year in college following a futile attempt at accounting. It was in the Service that he commenced a writing career as the editor and sole contributor to \u201cThe Tribe Scribe\u201d &#8211; a bi-monthly politically incorrect base newspaper which, while very popular with the troops, was not held in the highest esteem by the military bureaucracy. After three years, nine months and twenty eight days in the Air Force he was honorably discharged and attended and graduated from the University of Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>He soon made his way to New York where after several years of living on hot dogs and jelly donuts he landed his first big job as a writer for the legendary Captain Kangaroo children&#8217;s program. His TV writing career is long and varied, and includes The Andy Griffith Show, Get Smart, and The Smother&#8217;s Brothers Comedy Hour.<\/p>\n<p>It was while doing The Kraft Music Hall in New York that he became involved with theatre, co-writing his first play\u00a0<i>NORMAN, IS THAT YOU?<\/i>\u00a0which has been produced throughout the world.<\/p>\n<p>A prolific talent, he has also composed songs which have been recorded by Elvis Presley, Brian Ferry, and Los Lobos. He also co-wrote all the songs for the two MAD Magazine albums,\u00a0<i>MAD Twists Rock &#8216;N&#8217; Roll<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Fink Along With MAD<\/i>\u00a0\u2013 both of which have become collector&#8217;s items.<\/p>\n<p>Recently &#8211; he and his son Joey wrote and released a hilarious but wickedly rude CD called\u00a0<i>Totally Twisted Country<\/i>\u00a0sung by the great country and western group The Cow Pies.<\/p>\n<p>He is married and lovingly-devoted to playwright Julie Stein with whom he co-wrote several plays (including THE OUTRAGEOUS ADVENTURES OF SHELDON &amp; MRS. LEVINE and LENNY&#8217;S BACK (a one man show about the legendary comedian Lenny Bruce).<\/p>\n<p>Besides his son he has two fantastic daughters Lori and Steffy, two wonderful son-in-laws, Caleb and Geoff, one magnificent daughter-in-law, Linda and two outstanding grand-children, Ariel and Joshua.<\/p>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_1225\">\n<dt><a href=\"http:\/\/whatuphollywood.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Ed-Scharlachfmt.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Ed Scharlach\" src=\"http:\/\/whatuphollywood.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Ed-Scharlachfmt-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Ed Scharlach<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>Ed Scharlach, another multi-talented writer who wrote for both television comedies and more serious stuff, like\u00a0<em>Mike Hammer.<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0<a title=\"Ed Scharlach\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/movies\/person\/1159252\/Ed-Scharlach\/filmography\" target=\"_blank\">Click here<\/a>\u00a0for a list of his extensive television writing credits.<\/p>\n<p>He has written and produced more than 300 episodes of TV comedy, including: segments for classic shows such as \u201cThe Odd Couple,\u201d \u201cHappy Days,\u201d \u201cMork and Mindy,\u201d and \u201cLove American Style.\u201d He also penned pristine episodes of acclaimed variety shows like \u201cThe Dean Martin Show\u201d and shows for Steve Martin, Bette Midler, and Jay Leno.<\/p>\n<p>He is also worked for several TV hour mystery dramas include writing\/producing for \u201cMickey Spillane\u2019s Mike Hammer\u201d and writing for sci-fi classics such as \u201cQuantum Leap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatuphollywood.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Scooby-Doo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Scooby-Doo\" src=\"http:\/\/whatuphollywood.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Scooby-Doo-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>His writing\/producing also include such acclaimed animated series as \u201cDuckman,\u201d \u201cThe Wild Thornberrys\u201d, \u201cPinky and the Brain,\u201d the pilot for the cult favorite, \u201cInvader Zim, as well as producing the TV series revival of the famed \u201cScooby-Doo\u201d franchise.<\/p>\n<p>His work as been heralded in TV Guide\u2019s \u201c101 Best Written TV Series,\u201d as well as in TV Guide\u2019s \u201c100 Greatest Episodes of All Time.\u201d He is an Emmy, Annie, and Writer\u2019s Guild Award nominee and the winner of a Cable ACE award.<\/p>\n<p>He also happens to be one of the kindest and most beloved human beings in the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_1226\">\n<dt><a href=\"http:\/\/whatuphollywood.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/arnie-kogen.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Arnie Kogen\" src=\"http:\/\/whatuphollywood.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/arnie-kogen-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Arnie Kogen<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>Arnie Kogen, another major comedy writer and producer joins the group tonight. \u00a0Mr. Kogen has written for many of the major stand-up comedians, including Don Adams, Soupy Sales, Jackie Gleason and Johnny Carson. \u00a0Not only did he write for many television shows, but he wrote for years for our favorite Mad Magazine. \u00a0<a title=\"Arnie Kogen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arnie_Kogen\" target=\"_blank\">Click Here\u00a0<\/a>for a list of his credits, and\u00a0<a title=\"Mad Magazine\" href=\"http:\/\/madcoversite.com\/ugoi-arnie_kogen.html\" target=\"_blank\">Click Here<\/a>\u00a0for the list of Mad Magazine pieces.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s written and\/or produced for The Carol Burnett Show, The Tonight Show, Newhart, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Empty Nest, Mad TV, The Dean Martin Show, Sinbad, Donnie &amp; Marie, The Jackson Five, Evening At The Improv, The Bob Newhart Show, Tim Conway, Candid Camera, The Golden Globes and The Academy Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Has also written comedy material for Phyllis Diller, Steve Lawrence &amp; Eydie Gorme, Shelley Berman, Debbie Reynolds, Connie Stevens, Totie Fields, Jackie Vernon, Diana Ross, Flip Wilson, Ann Margret, Sammy Davis, Morty Gunty, Mal Z Lawrence and Freddie Roman.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatuphollywood.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Mad-Mag.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Mad Mag\" src=\"http:\/\/whatuphollywood.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Mad-Mag-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>For over five decades he has been one of the leading contributors to Mad Magazine.<\/p>\n<p>He has won three Emmy Awards (seven nominations) and one Writers Guild Award (three nominations)<\/p>\n<p>He has been planning on writing a novel but doesn\u2019t have enough material.
